Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |

This 9th installment of Open House BK is super exciting for many reasons:
We’re utilizing two apartments this time, artworks featured throughout. We’ll also be exhibiting outdoor sculpture in the garden of the downstairs bar, Quarter (http://quarterbarbrooklyn.com/). Lastly, this is our first bi-coastal event with a simultaneous Open House show taking place in LA. Please come and explore this layered experience!
*Light refreshments on the house, Donations welcome!
** Feel free to have drinks in the bar & outside garden, however, those drinks will have to come from Quarter (amazing cocktails!). All refreshments in the upstairs apartments will have to stay upstairs. =)

Please stand by….more to come from this end. Project fundraising in full swing!
It’s been a looong time since I have added a posting to this blog. There is a reason for that. As much as I am dedicated to Art Therapy in Namibia (ATP), I am also fully and overly employed at the moment an average work week of 50 hours, gaining beautiful experience and needed clinical hours to put forth towards my New York State License (LCAT) http://tinyurl.com/66b6e9a as well as my national accreditation of ATR-BC (Registered Art Therapist- Board Certified) http://tinyurl.com/6a6vmd6
It was my goal to complete these credentials before returning to Namibia, not only to bring my experience and knowledge to improve the program but to validate my standing as a clinician here and abroad.
This past year has been an incredible learning experience including tackling the various tasks and attention to detail a start up non-profit agency requires. It is one thing to truly believe in the work you are trying to accomplish but to “sell” the product to others is another challenge that is never ending. I am constantly surprised about how easy it is to describe the work I would like to accomplish in Namibia to someone that is not seasoned in the creative arts, or non profit work but it sometimes dampens my spirit to see how much more work needs to be accomplished to make this project a sustainable reality.
Regardless, as much as I love New York, it is time to return to Namibia and beyond in an effort to create sustainable creative arts programs to nurture the strong self-esteem and creative spirit required of tomorrow’s leaders.
Cheers,
Cheryl
Happy Holidays Everybody!
We hope everyone has had a wonderful 2010 year so far! Thanks again to all of you who have donated to Art Therapy: New York to Namibia! With your support we have been able to strengthen our efforts to get our non-profit off the ground. We have come a long way since February of this year, and we still have a long way to go. Your donations have kept us going through these past few months and we are exceptionally grateful. We are continuing to educate people on the importance of our cause to give children in Namibia, Africa the support they need to fulfill their highest potential. Last month, we traveled to Sacramento, CA and presented our cause at the annual American Art Therapy Association’s conference with great success.
These past few months we have been in the process of creating a grant proposal to send out to organizations and gather the remaining funds needed to make the last huge step in our journey. Think about us these next few months as we strive to get the remaining money we need to book the plane tickets! In addition, we have created a Kickstarter page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nyctonamibia/art-therapy-new-york-to-namibia
we are remembering 9 years ago today! http://tinyurl.com/3xjldxm nyc we love you!
