Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |
Don’t get me wrong, Christi and I have embraced all the wildlife Namibia has to offer. Shedding our skittish New Yorker feelings towards anything that has more than two legs we found ourselves face to face with two porcupines that invited themselves into our home at 5am. After incorporating a shattering glass into my active dreaming state and giving the two unwanted house guests an extra 30 minutes to raid the place, we came to and opened our bedroom door to the strong stench of the “rats of the desert”! With the help of Samuel and Ben, our fellow volunteers, we were able to corner the two porcupines into one room. (I say “we” but it was really just Ben and Samuel while Christi and I documented the incident with video and laughed our butts off.) After all was said and done we were left with a ripped screen door, a couple of broken glasses, a turned over garbage can, lots and lots of quills, porcupine excrement and a great story.
