Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |
The revenge of the armored cricket….I must say, Christi and I have adapted to life in the Namib quite well. There was that first night where a gecko made his way into our bedroom and I insisted it be removed…now, I am totally cool with Mr. Gecko. Tok tokkies, bring it on, Oryx at my window, what ever!!!, mouse in my bed……catch and release, no sweat! Then there were the armored crickets…Upon first meeting I admit I squealed like a little girl but now, I think we are friends. I even found a baby one in my room up at the center the other day, picked it up and felt the need to show everyone how cute it was.
So, Christi and I have had an armored cricket that lived under our door up at the center. Every night he would come out and stand guard …..until the other day, I found him fighting for his life on his side and later that day he was finally gone. Did we accidentally step on our guard? I am not ready to take responsibility for his death on this public forum considering we are living on a nature reserve and all but some weird things have been happening. It seems as if every visit to the lovely drop toilet since his death, there is another armored cricket, just hanging out. But the thing is, they seem to be multiplying and I am growing more and more frightened that they are onto me….do they know…….
