Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |
After spending 7 weeks at NaDEET it was time for Christi and I to say goodbye. Our last night was met with a beautiful rainstorm. YES, rain in the desert, met with a beautiful full rainbow!!! As you can probably guess, the rain did not last long enough to spoil our evening of our favorite Namibian traditions..The Sundowner and the Braii. To witness the sun go down over the beautiful landscape of the Namib Desert was time and time again beyond breath taking. The sky itself is something that I will never forget. The NaDEET staff joined with Tok Tokkie Trails from next door all piled in the bakkies for one final drive out to one of the best dunes we have see so far. (This celebration was not only our going away party but also the 6-year birthday party for the opening of the NaDEET center!) As we said goodbye to the sun the tears came out. The energy of an environment is something that you cannot bottle, photograph or purchase but I hopefully will keep it close in my thoughts. The tradition of the braii includes cooking meats over a smoldering wood fire while we all sit around telling stories. After dinner we were lucky enough to have a viewing session of the big sky. Stars are not seen so much in NYC (if any) so needless to say, once again, the sky NEVER got old. I am at a loss of words to describe it’s ever changing moon and constellations. All in all we had a lovely evening of reminiscing and enjoying the company of new friends that are sorely missed.
Thank you Viktoria, Andres, Alanna, Ben, Samuel & Elizabeth for a great evening!
xoxo
