Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |
Back from Africa, back from Texas…now what?
Our second week back in America, Christi and I took off to Dallas, Texas to attend the American Art Therapy Conference (AATA). The conference gave us the opportunity to attend workshops and lectures of our fellow colleagues in the field from all over the country. We were drawn to any lecture that pertained to Art Therapy on an international level (for obvious reasons) and learned a lot about what we have already accomplished in Namibia and what we can do in the future. We have also decided to propose to the AATA to present our experience in Namibia at next year’s conference!
We also had the pleasure of sitting in on Jean Davis’s Environmental Art Therapy Experiential Workshop. Jean is the chair of the graduate program at Pratt Institute and a personal mentor. She is a advocate for the use of Environmental Art Therapy and inspired some of the directives we used while our time at NaDEET. The images above are just some examples of some of the participants artwork that was created on the roof deck of the hotel in Dallas!
And of course, my first trip to Texas could not be complete with out a night out on the town! An authentic rockabilly band was just what I was looking for! Enjoy the photos!
What’s next?…….Cheryl & Christi need jobs!!!
