Art Therapy In Namibia |
Creative Arts Therapists Cheryl Walpole & christi meyer volunteered at an environmental educational camp in the Namib desert, called NaDEET. They provided art therapy to the campers who range in age and economic status. We left the camp with the resources to not only enrich their culture, but with the ability to achieve self-expression through art. for further information please feel free to contact either of us at our email: cheryl@arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com arttherapynewyorktonamibia.com |
Perhaps it’s the holidays or just enough time has past since I’ve been in Africa (nostalgia may have set in) but I found myself able to put aside the hokey feeling that Hollywood lends to films of this nature and truly enjoy it. Part of our African experience was watching a Rugby match on TV and (trying) to learn about this intense sport! Although I know that Rugby players get waaay dirtier than what was portrayed and (through reading Mr. Mandela’s autobiography) I know he did not win over the hearts of all South Africa through a single world cup win but I was pleased to see that Hollywood embraced such a story line and bring it to the masses. I believe this film served a purpose of educating Americans in an entertaining way, perhaps leaving room for dialogue. I would also like to commend Mr. Clint Eastwood for attempting to film inside the scrum, something that I have been wanting to see although I still have my own idea as to what really is going inside there during a real gritty Rugby match.
Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
William Henley
